A trail running community in the JNP

Trail Monkey is an events club with a community feel. You’ll find them off road, often on stretches of the JNP. They recently made a kind donation to the JNP. Here’s a little more about them and how you can get involved in their trail running community.

Trail Monkey organises fun off road running events in Jersey. From 5km runs right through to Ultra Distance, fun and inclusivity is at the heart of what we do – all mixed up with beautiful scenery, a few hills here and there and tea and cake at the end.

We started in Jan 2018 and have held quite a number of races on the cliffpaths, in that time we have seen people come from having never run the trails to taking half marathons, and even our Ultra Marathon that ran on 4th May this year, the Double Top Ultra.

I personally have been a keen runner for many years and between co-founder Nicola Gott and myself were responsible for bringing Parkrun to Jersey in 2015, feeling that running should be for everyone to enjoy.

I personally love the cliff paths here in Jersey, I have never tired of the breathtaking view at Les Platons, or Sorel Point and we get to show others this by way of our races! We decided to donate to Jersey National Park as we hold numerous events in the park and completely agree with the ethos of not only the Jersey National Park but also the other environmental charities that are active in Jersey and we believe that in our use of the cliffpaths we should then in return give something back to help sustain and preserve the Park.

Our races welcome people of all abilities and are staged at different parts of the island and are marked. We often have a 5km or 10km option so that people new to the trails can try and see whether it is for them, most people do find it is, even though the routes can be challenging, walking is ok and we are all a nice little community within the events.
